Peter C. Carpino, principal and founder of TheCarpinoGroup has worked with nonprofit organizations for more than 40 years. He served for two decades as the CEO for the United Ways in Rochester, NY and Lehigh Valley, PA; spent eight years as the chief development and marketing officer for a liberal arts college; and began his career as a communications director and, later, vice president for marketing and resource development.
Peter knows what it’s like to serve on a Board as well as work with and for a Board. He served for three years as chair of the Board of the United Way of Pennsylvania and is a former Board member of the United Way of New York State. He was a member of the executive committee of Greater Rochester Enterprise and the Mayor’s Literacy Commission and Early Learning Council (for Rochester Mayors Duffy and Warren, respectively) and is a past Board member of the Center for Governmental Research and several other nonprofits. He also served on numerous national United Way committees.
Peter has been an organizational development consultant for GetSET, a capacity building initiative for nonprofits sponsored by the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York, the Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation, the John R. Oishei Foundation, and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. He also served as a consultant for the Millennium Collaborative Care GetSET Initiative sponsored by Erie County Medical Center and, most recently, was a consultant for the GetREADY initiative which was funded by the Oishei Foundation and other foundations to strengthen nonprofit governance structures.
Peter taught for nine years in the doctoral program in executive leadership (Ed.D.) at the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education at St. John Fisher College. He also is a Center for Dispute Settlement-certified mediator.
He holds a Ph.D. from the Union Institute in Cincinnati, OH, a Master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Bachelor's degree from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY.
